Manchester United started its preseason tour in fine form Saturday night and cruised to a 5-2 win over the Los Angeles Galaxy at StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Marcus Rashford shined for the Red Devils with a brace in the game’s first 20 minutes before Marouane Fellaini, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial all found the back of the net.

The Galaxy were largely listless in the attacking third, but Giovani dos Santos bagged a pair of goals in the game’s final 11 minutes to get L.A. on the board.

The star of the show was the 19-year-old Rashford, who looked like a legitimate cornerstone at striker after he scored five times in 16 Premier League appearances last season, according to WhoScored.com.

In fact, Rashford was so locked in that he nearly put the finishing touches on a hat trick in the first half before he was denied in a one-on-one setting by Galaxy goalie Jon Kempin.

With United up 3-0 at the break, the Manchester Evening News‘ Samuel Luckhurst and James Robson noted the Galaxy were simply out of their depth:

Rashford was subbed out at halftime when United made wholesale lineup changes, and his exit gave way to the arrival of Romelu Lukaku, who made his debut Saturday night in Southern California.

However, Lukaku’s arrival proved to be a goal-less one, even though he had a golden opportunity to slot home a shot in the 59th minute that couldn’t cut inside the far post.

Nonetheless, United should be encouraged about how its American trip started, as goals proved plentiful and the defense was largely solid, save for a few minor lapses once the result was in hand.

Manager Jose Mourinho’s side will be back in action Monday against Real Salt Lake before it heads for a showdown against Manchester City on July 20 at NRG Stadium in Houston.
